Jo-an, a national treasure, was built in Kyoto by Urakusai Oda and was moved to Inuyama recently. Jo-an is considered one of the elite three tea rooms in Japan. This teahouse remains one of the three best teahouses in Japan with JIAN teahouse and MITSUAN teahouse in Kyoto.
After the Osaka winter war, Urakusai gave up his samurai status and became a monk, living in the Shoden-in hall, inside Kenninji Temple in Kyoto. There he built Jo-an as a tea ceremony arbor. Jo-an, Shoden-in and other buildings were relocated to Inuyama in 1972, and named `Uraku-en`.
URAKUEN Japanese garden is located at the east of INUYAMA castle with National Treasure teahouse JOAN, important cultural asset SYODENIN SHOIN house, teahouse GENAN restored based on old layouts, and newly built teahouse KOAN and has a solemn atmosphere.
