Living in a region surrounded on all sides by water, the sea plays an important role in the lives of all the inhabitants of the Shimokita Peninsula. The Sea Festival is an event that expresses the inhabitants thanks to the sea and is an affirmation of their commitment to protecting
clean water and the abundant sealife it sustains, as well as promoting water safety consciousness.
The festival is full of events the entire family can enjoy: acruise around Ominato Bay on Japanese Marine Self Defence Force warship, a fishing boat parade, an outdoor concert, the annual public opening of the Shiriya Lighthouse, and much more.
