Yamanashi Prefecture is located near the center of Honshu, the main island of Japan. It has an area of 4462 square kilometers, and a population of about 880,000. Seventy-eight percent of the prefecture is covered with forests, it includes four national and quasi-national parks such as the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Mountain climbing and soaking in hot springs are among the most popular forms of recreation in Yamanashi. The many hot springs in the area offer healthy rejuvenation as well as relaxation. The largest hot springs in the prefecture, located in Isawa, is only one and a half hours from Tokyo. Other activities include hiking, tennis, and fishing.

    The Chuo Expressway is the main route to Yamanashi. From Tokyo, take the Shuto Kosoku Line 4 (Shinjuku Line). From Nagoya or Osaka, enter the Chuo Expressway at Komaki Junction from the Meishin Expressway.
